Tom Penman

Director of Services

Tom has worked as a speech and language therapist since 1986 - in acute, rehab and community settings, in both clinical and management roles. He completed a post-graduate diploma in Aphasiology in 1994, moving on to help set up Connect in 1999, where he is now Director of Services. Tom

has taught widely, across the UK and internationally, He was a clinical advisor to Action for Dysphasic Adults (now Speakability) from 1994 -1997. He represented the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists on the Inter-collegiate working party (under the auspices of the Royal College of Physicians) developing the National Guidelines for Stroke from 2001–2004.

He has a particular interest in the development of long-term opportunities for people with aphasia. This includes supporting people with aphasia to develop and deliver services themselves as well as supporting voluntary sector agencies and public, arts and leisure organisations to involve and include people with communication disability.
