What happens at Connect?

At the London Centre, Connect offers a comprehensive package of therapy and support, education and training, and research services for people with long term aphasia.

We work with people with aphasia and their families to maximise communication skills and rebuild confidence. Our programmes also help people explore new possibilities and choices, educating themselves and others about communication disability and life.

About 40 or 50 people come to the Centre every week from all over London and the southeast. They range in age from 20 to 85. Some people come for up to two days weekly. Others may come for less intensive therapy such as to a once-a-month discussion group.

People attending the Centre participate in a range of therapy programmes, both in groups and individually.

The therapy and support programmes are run by therapists, counsellors, student speech and language therapists and volunteers. Some groups are co-facilitated by people with aphasia. All of the staff are trained and supported by a team of experts.
