Connect Launch

Tuesday, 20th March 2001 marked the official launch of Connect - the communication disability network.

We welcomed 120 people living with aphasia to our new building in Southwark,London to celebrate the start of our new organisation.

Alan Hewitt, Connect Trustee, opened our day with an overview of our development:

  • from City Dysphasic Group at City University, London
  • to becoming Connect - now offerring an exciting and innovative place for people with aphasia and their families and friends to feel valued and supported.
  • Harry Clarke, one of our counsellors, told the story of his stroke and journey since, through hospitals and rehab to training as a counsellor and joining the Connect staff.

The afternoon stimulated all our senses with -

  • an operatic duet
  • a mime artist, and
  • a troupe of acrobats
  • - celebrating communication in all its' forms!

People with aphasia, their friends and families from all over the UK joined us to make an unforgettable and fun day.

Connect has been well and truly launched!
