Connect Marathon runners beat the heat

24 April 2007

Connect were delighted to have two runners in the 2007 London Marathon on 22nd April who between them have raised over £3500 for Connect. In spite of the record temperatures, Trevor Dolan completed the gruelling 26 miles in four hours forty minutes and Liz Lewis was just behind him at four hours fifty eight minutes.

Liz Lewis is congratulated by Connect trustee Sue Strachan.

Liz said “it was hard work and very hot but I was determined to make it to my goal of under five hours.”

Connect supporters were at key points around the course and both runners received a “red carpet” welcome at the finish by a group of Connect staff and well-wishers.

Liz has run marathons before for other charities but she specially enjoyed running for Connect. “I can't emphasise enough what a great experience it's been to run for Connect”, she said. “It was all incredible -  wonderful pre-race organisation and encouragement, nice touches like the vest with my name on, fantastic support on the route - I felt like a star!

Trevor and Liz have raised over £5000 for and chose Connect as they have both known people living with aphasia. Find out more about why they were inspired to support Connect on their web pages and make a donation on www.justgiving.com/lizlewis and/or www.justgiving.com/trevordolan
