Connect trustee is knighted

17 June 2011

Professor Roger Boyle is awarded a knighthood.

Connect trustee Professor Roger Boyle has been knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. Professor Boyle, whose official title is National Clinical Director for Heart Disease and Stroke, has led the development of NHS guidelines for the treatment of people with stroke and aphasia in England.

He said he was “deeply honoured” to have been knighted, adding that he regarded the honour as recognition for all the hard work heart and stroke teams had accomplished, not just within the Department of Health but across the NHS.
Sir Roger has been a Connect trustee since 2010 and is a firm supporter of the Connect ethos of people with aphasia supporting each other through schemes such as befriending and conversation groups. Sir Roger recently appeared on BBC Radio Four’s Woman’s hour in a discussion about long term services for people with aphasia.
