Rose puts her money where her mouth is

23 August 2011

Rose, who works in the fundraising department at Connect, has joined our Fantastic 50 Challenge! She is raising money and awareness for Connect by doing a 3 day sponsored silence.

Rose has pledged not to say a single word for 3 whole days. She has carried on her life as normal; going to work, the gym, the pub, doing her shopping, but without breathing a word.

There were several sceptics amongst her family, friends and colleagues who thought it was highly unlikely she would manage to keep it up for 3 whole days as Rose is renowned as a bit of a loud mouth! Speaking for one of the last times before her marathon silence, Rose said ‘It’s going to be tough as I love chatting to everyone or anyone, including random people on public transport! This challenge will be no comparison to actually having aphasia but I hope it will highlight how devastating it can be when you lose your speech in an instant.”

Rose is now on her third and final day of the silence and is hoping to reach her target of £500. To support Rose's efforts, donations can be made at

Rose also hopes to raise awareness for Connect and aphasia and will be featured in articles in this weeks South London Press and Fulham and Hammersmith Chronicle.
