Questions about aphasia

I have aphasia. When will I get better?

Aphasia is different for everyone. Recovery is different too. Many people who come to Connect talk about recovery.

Some people have aphasia which lasts just a short time, weeks or months. Jas, for example, proved all the doctors wrong!

Alan, who now works at Connect had no speech at all for a very long time. For other people, aphasia lasts a lot longer. Sometimes speech doesn't change much but lots of other things do - confidence, finding new ways to do things, outlook on life.

Signs of improvement can come very gradually and this can be hard for everyone living with aphasia, including family and friends. Try to be patient – sometimes it just takes a long time.
